                 Ethan Allen

1738 -  1789
Ethan Allen was an important patriot and political
activist in the "New Hampshire grants",  the colonial
territory that eventually became the state of Vermont.
He is now well-known especially as leader of the Green
Mountain Boys, an informal group organized to resist
the attempts of New York to gain control over that
territory.
