Dorothy A. Lowman

Dorothy Marie "Dot" Allman Lowman, 74, of Abee's Grove Church Road, Valdese, went home to meet the Lord on Sunday,
Oct. 2, 2005, at her residence following a period of declining health.

Mrs. Lowman was born Dec. 18, 1930, in Buncombe County to the late Murray Allman and Pearl Chambers Allman. She
graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and worked as a registered nurse for surgeons Dr. Yates Palmer
and Dr. Jayendra I. Patel for 44 years at Valdese General Hospital, from October 1952 until May 1996. She was previously
a Girl Scout leader in Valdese for Troop 91, a volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, a volunteer as a nurse
at the Good Samaritan Clinic, a member of The Hildebran Retired Seniors Group, a member of Happy Friends at First
United Methodist Church, Valdese, and a member of Grace Hospital Alumni Association.

She was a member of Abee's Chapel Baptist Church for 53 years, where she was currently a member of the Women's
Missionary Union and previously an Acteen director and Sunday school teacher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lowman Jr. and sister, Faye Allman Morris.
Survivors include her children, Norma Kay Rains and husband, Dennis, of Valdese and Angie Marie Ausley and husband,
Jeff, of Candler; brother, Calvin Allman of Peachtree City, Ga.; sister, Emma Allman Rice of Asheville; grandchild, Laurel
Elisabeth Poe of Valdese; and nephews, Roy Rice of Weaverville, Jeff Rice of Candler, Anthony Morris of Mableton, Ga.,
Stuart Morris of Locust Grove, Ga., Gary Allman of San Jose, Calif., and David Allman of Atlanta.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Abee's Chapel Baptist church with the Rev. Buddy Sizemore
officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
