Madison Co NC Bunc Co NC
Judson Ammons was a teacher at the Morgan Hill School during its last years,
before Flat Creek School opened about 1926.
In 1910 the Ammons family resided in Mars Hill, NC. In 1920, he and his family
resided in Asheville, NC. In both of these censuses, Judson Ammons was listed
as "School Teacher". Sometime after 1920, the Ammons family moved to the
large Victorian-style house (a quarter-mile or so west of the school, close by
the road) which has since been occupied by members of the Wallin family, and
the Ammonses were still living there for the 1930 census, in which Judson

Ammons was listed as "Farmer".
Judson Ammons was a son of John Ammons, an earlier teacher at Morgan Hill School and also a
pastor of the Morgan Hill Baptist Church, and a grandson of Stephen Ammons, one of the local
leaders who founded the French Broad Baptist Institute which later became Mars Hill College.
