"On 25 Sep 1861, Pvt. Ezekiel Banks enlisted in Co. C., 16th North Carolina Infantry Regiment (Confederate) at Burnsville,
NC. Listed as age 27 and resident Yancey Co. On 31 Dec 1861 and 28 Feb 1862, he was present with them at Wolf River
shoals, VA. He was listed as deserting May 1862 and in another record as deserting Jun 1863. (Compiled Service Records
of Confederate Soldiers - North Carolina. LDS reel 1381241)"
"On 11 Jun 1864, Pvt. Ezekiel Banks was mustered into Co. A, 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry Regiment (Union) at
Knoxville, TN. Listed as age 30, farmer, black hair, dark eyes, light complexion, 5'9" tall. He signed with a mark. Beginning
15 Oct 1864, he was absent on recruiting service while his regiment was at Knoxville, TN; wounded Oct 1864; died as a
