The Beachboard family occupied the old Jacob Comer Sams home west of Piney Mountain Baptist Church in north
Buncombe County. In 1902, they deeded land, along with
John Wesley Shepherd and Matilda Riddle Shepherd, for
the construction of the church. Minnie Elkins Beachboard's brothers lived nearby. Later the family moved to
Asheville, where Mr. Beachboard served as a United States Marshal.

Mother Minnie Elkins Beachboard and daughter Julia Joan Beachboard are interred side by side in Riverside
Cemetery, Asheville, NC.

The official documents present some puzzles:

The US Census for Asheville in 1930 lists "W. J. Beachboard", female, age 50, widow, as head of household with
daughters Johanna Beachboard, age 25, and Willie Beachboard, age 18. This must surely be Minnie Elkins
Beachboard, but why were the initials of her deceased husband used? This may be an error on the part of the
census taker.

Also, the 1920 census lists "Willie B. Jr", age 8, as male son. In 1930, Willie, age 18, is a female daughter.

In 1937, the Asheville City directory listed "Beachboard Minnie B (wid Wm J) h44 Hollywood"; along with
"Beachboard Jonannah slswn Bon Marche Inc r44 Hollywood";
"Beachboard Willie B nurse 44 Hollywood r do"; and
"Beachboard Jas B (Palace Billiard Parlor) r125 1/2 College".
