"James A. Buckner . . . was a farmer, horse breeder, and, during the Civil War, Sheriff of Buncombe and Madison Counties."
"On 17 December 1830, James A. Buckner was granted 100 acres of land in Buncombe County of the waters of Big Ivy."
He was buried beside his first wife, Susannah Roberts Buckner, in the Buckner family cemetery located on the ridge, near the old homeplace, between Hobson Branch and Stockton Branch in north Buncombe County.
