"Burnsville – William Cecil Burnette, 101, of Burnsville, went home to be with
the Lord on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at Brookside Rehabilitation and Care.
A native of Buncombe County, he was the husband of the late Louise Adams
Burnette, and the son of the late John Coleman Burnette and Lillie Louburgie
Shepherd Burnette. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma
Wilson; a son, William Earl Burnette; brothers and sisters, Essie Caroline
Buckner, Serena Rivers, Lillie Bell Thomas, Harriet Thomas, Jessie Thomas,
Mary Roberts, Bernice Myers and J. C. Burnette. He was of the Baptist faith
and retired after many years from The Biltmore Estate where he worked in the
"Surviving are his five daughters, Patsy Riddle and husband, Bobby, Peggy Harris and husband, Bill, Bernice McMahan
and husband, Junior, Brenda Robertson and husband, Frank, and Nancy Silvers and husband, Welzie, all of Burnsville;
five sons, Charles Burnette and wife, Carol, of Akron, Ohio, Donald Burnette and wife, Peggy, of Eugene, Oregan, Ray
Burnette and wife, Norma, Leon Burnette and wife, Peggy, Lawrence Burnette and wife, Ponda, all of Burnsville;
daughter-in-law, Edna Burnette of North Branch, Michigan; brother, Luther Burnette, of Weaverville; 39 grandchildren; 57
greatgrandchildren, and 14 great great-grandchildren.
"The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. The Rev. Jerry Shelton will
officiate. Burial will follow in the McMahan Cemetery on Pensacola. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to
the service at the funeral home, and at other times will be at the home of Ray Burnette.
