In the 1860 census, the John C. Chambers household included Daniel Anderson, age 8; Rachel
Anderson, age 3, and Dulcina Anderson, age 2. In 1870, Dulcina is listed as a Chambers, and
Daniel and Rachel Anderson are no longer present. In the 1880 census, wife Sarah is no longer
present. John C. Chambers' age varies among the censuses, but the 1870 and 1880 listings agree
with a birth year of about 1826.
The ancestry of Sarah Sally Metcalf is probable. John C. Chambers had two sisters, Jane and
Susannah, who were both married in that order to James Metcalf. James Metcalf had a sister
Sarah, born about 1833 and another sister, Jane, who is believed to have married John Anderson.
The Anderson children mentioned above could be Jane's. If so, then the likelihood that this Sarah
Metcalf is the sister of James Metcalf seems greater.
