In 1896, a "Miss Mattie W. Childers" resided on Eagle Street, at the corner of Valley Street, in
Asheville, NC.

In the 1900 Census, "Mattie Childers" and baby "Julia Childers" resided at 12 North Court Square,
Asheville, NC. Aunt Mattie was head of household and her occupation was listed as "Laundress".
Other families or individuals residing at this address had the following occupations: painter, revenue
officer, gardener, laundress, dress-maker, and laborer.

On 17 December, 1900, Mattie married Robert C. Reynolds.

In the 1920 Census, Mattie and husband Robert C. Reynolds resided in Winston-Salem Ward 3,
along with daughter Julia, her husband Robert E. Reno, and their baby son Hubert L. Reno.

In April, 1930, when the census was taken, Robert Reynolds and Mattie Childers Reynolds lived in
the Biltmore ward of Asheville, NC. Robert was employed as a machinist in a bleaching mill.

In April, 1940, when the census was taken, Mattie lived with husband Robert Reynolds, daughter
Julia Reno, and Julia's son Hubert Reno, in the Sayles district of Oakley, in east Buncombe County.
Robert was employed as a machinist in the bleaching industry (Sayles Biltmore Bleachery), and
Hubert was employed as a bleacher in that same industry.
