                                        Sale to John Moreland
                                              25 May 1813

Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Childress of the State of North Carolina & County of Buncombe
for and in the consideration of the sum of Two hundred and ten Dollars to me in hand Paid by John Moreland of
the State and County aforesaid at and before the Sealing and before the Sealing and Signing of these presents
The Receipt and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged for myself and my heirs do hereby Bargain Sell and
Confirm unto him the said John Moreland his heirs and assigns forever a Certain piece of land in the County and
State aforesaid situate lying and being as follows On the west side of French Broad River in the County and
State aforesaid in the Gap of The Mountain between Philips branch and Elijah Lees Mill Creek Beginning on a
white oak on a ridge near the head of a spring near John Biffles Mill path Runs South two hundred and fifty
poles to a post oak thence East one hundred and Sixty poles to a white oak Thence North two hundred & Fifty
poles to a stake Thence West One Hundred and Sixty poles to the beginning Containing two Hundred and fifty
acres and [?] from States Grant 936 which said piece or parcel of Land with all ways woods waters and every
other appurtenance Thereunto belonging I have myself my Heirs Extrs & admins sold set over conveyed
Released and Confirmed in Open Market to the said John Moreland his heirs Extrs admns & assigns forever a I
do hereby for myself my heirs Extrs admins Covenant to and with the said John Moreland his Extrs or assigns
that I and my Heirs Extrs or admns shall Warrant & defend the said piece or Parcel of Land with all and Every
of its Members free from all lawfull Claims of my Person or persons whatsoever unto The said John Moreland
his heirs admns or assigns. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal This Twentyfifth day of
May One Thousand Eight hundred and Thirteen
