On 8 April 1930, the census of Richmond, Virginia (Madison ward), found Manes E., 53, and Mary S. Childers, 49, residing at 600 Ninth
St. Road, in a rented house valued at $1500. There was no radio. (On this census page of four households, only one recorded a radio.)
Manes was employed as a watchman at a tobacco factory, and Mary was employed as a cutter in a paper mill.

When Manes Elijah died in 1952, his Virginia death certificate listed his occupation, again, as watchman in a tobacco factory. Burial was
in the Maury Cemetery, Richmond, VA.
