A. Childers was listed as head of the household. The two nearby houses are occupied by Sutton
families: Lewis B. Sutton, age 52, with wife Lucinda, 53, and three sons, Fred L., 16; James, 14; and
Henry M., 10; on one side, and on the other side, Russell Sutton, age 58, with two daughters and three
sons.

In the 1920 US Census, "Elijah M. Childers", age 45, resided in Winston-Salem (Ward 4), Forsyth Co,
NC, along with his wife Susie, age 39, two daughters, two sons, and eight boarders, in a rented house.
The children listed are Mary Childers, 22; Etta Childers, 17; Theador Childers, 16, and "Tal" Childers,
12.
It seems that the Childers family was running a boarding house: boarders listed are Estus Parson, 26;
Worth Miller, 22; Thomas Hortsog, 19; James Tive, 20; James Sutton, 24; Henry Sutton, 20; Wilmer
King, 19, and Hubert Hensley, 22.

On 8 April 1930, the census of Richmond, Virginia (Madison ward), found Manes E., 53, and Mary S. Childers, 49, residing at 600 Ninth
St. Road, in a rented house valued at $1500. There was no radio. (On this census page of four households, only one recorded a radio.)
Manes was employed as a watchman at a tobacco factory, and Mary was employed as a cutter in a paper mill.
