"William was a successful man, being a magistrate for years and also a detective of the North State Agency for over 40 years. His business cards read, 'William Henry Deaver, Chief of North State Agency. (Do not handle divorce cases.)' William was on the committee appointed to get the government to put the first courthouse in Asheville. His office was on Court Square, next to the Oates Building.
"Having his own printing press, he printed the first newspaper ("The Journal") to be circulated more than once a week in Asheville. There are several pages on William in the Sondley library in Asheville."
