Leicester – Mabel Elkins Cole, 94, formerly of 1416 Newfound Road, Leicester, died
Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at Aston Park Health Care Center.

Mrs. Cole was a native of Buncombe County and was the daughter of the late James B.
and Myrtle Farmer Elkins. She was married for 55 years to L. Bruce Cole, who died in
1991, and she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Gary Bruce Taylor.

Mrs. Cole was a 1934 graduate of Asheville Normal Teacher's College. She taught in the
Buncombe County school system for 38 years, and retired in 1975, from Venable School.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and
taught the adult women's Sunday school class.

Mabel was a good neighbor and friend to all. She loved to cook and bake, and always shared with friends. She was loved
by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by one daughter, Dianne Taylor, and her husband, Jerry, of Mission, Texas; and extended family, Dale and
Joyce Morgan.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. William E. Zopp officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ed Cole, Carter Gorman, Bill Stowe, H.M. Rogers Jr.,
Shannon Morgan and Carroll Shook.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
The family expresses special appreciation to the administrators and staff of Aston Park Health Care Center for the care
and attention they provided to Mrs. Cole.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of John Towles,
Treasurer, 40 Hayes Cove Road, Leicester, NC 28748.
