Note: This account involves conjecture. While the marriage of James Metcalf to the two
Chambers sisters has been well established, the date of the second marriage is not clear. In the
1850 census, James Metcalf and his wife Jane, both listed as age 24, resided alone adjacent to
his parents Jacob and Elizabeth. By the time of the 1880 census, James's wife was listed as
"Margaret" and the household included eight children, from Wiley, age 24, to Zebulon, age 1, as
well as a Chambers sister-in-law.
Corrections, supporting documents, and clarifications will be much appreciated.
