Grandison Shepherd served in the Civil War. According to the National Park Service
database of U. S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861 - 1865 . . .

Also, Serena Wilson Shepherd, Grandison's widow, applied for a pension based on his

The 58 NC Infantry was organized in Yancy County, 29 May 1862, under Captain J. P.
Horton. Grandison would have been about 36 years old that year. The regiment wintered
at Jacksboro, Tennessee. Grandison died of measles infection 20 Nov 1862, at Jacksboro,
TN. In the 1870 census, the household lists Serena as head and Grandison is not present.
