Mitchell G. Shepherd served in the Civil War.
He enlisted in Company B (and Company D as well, by one report), NC 29th Infantry Regiment on 3 July 1861, and was promoted to Full Corporal on 2 May 1862.
Records indicate that he also served later in Company K, Third Regiment, NC Mounted Infantry (Union). The Pension Application Index lists Jane Shepherd, widow, with the date of 5 April 1900.
