Zelma Shepherd Rector

Weaverville – Zelma Shepherd Rector, age 98, of 170 Hobson Branch Rd., died Thursday, March 19,

Mrs. Rector was born June 6, 1910, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life and was the
last surviving child of the late Henry Taylor and Margaret Jane Shepherd. She was a loving mother and
grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and extended family at Elderberry Health Care.
She was the oldest member of Piney Mountain Baptist Church. Mrs. Rector was the wife of the late
Wade Rector who died in 1958. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ivory Black, Bergie
Hobson, Ruby Allen and Inez Childers, and brothers, Harold, Floyd, Jeter and Talmadge Shepherd.

Surviving are her son, Dale Rector and wife, Carolyn, of Weaverville; grandchildren, Jeff Rector and
wife, Melda; Shannon Fender and husband, Darian; and great granddaughter, Tamantha Rector.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Piney Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery with
the Rev. Steve Freeman officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon
Avenue, Weaverville.
