                                Francis Leroy "Lee" Stockton
                          24 November 1874      -     14 October 1938

Lee Stockton was a farmer in the Piney Mountain community of north Buncombe
County. He was a founding member and pillar of Piney Mountain Baptist Church,
and a lifelong bachelor. He was co-author of some of the elaborate formal
obituaries composed for members of the church, including this one for
John
Wesley Shepherd, in 1917. (Herein lies a puzzle: Mr. Stockton signed this
particular document "L. M. Stockton" rather than F. L. Stockton. Everyone knew
him as "Lee", so the "L" is understandable. But wherefore the "M"? Perhaps he
had begun using his father's middle name "Marion" to honor his father, who had
died a few years earlier.)
